# Civitascope

> **Status: early development.** This release only reserves the package name. There is no usable functionality yet.

Civitascope turns open [Eurostat](https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat) data into verifiable, sourced infographics.

This is a meta-package with no code of its own. `pip install civitascope` installs both Python parts:

- [civitascope-data](https://github.com/civitascope/civitascope-data): fetches Eurostat data, checks it against dataset cards and computes the figures;
- [civitascope-render](https://github.com/civitascope/civitascope-render): draws the infographics from those figures.

The website, [civitascope-web](https://github.com/civitascope/civitascope-web), is a separate Laravel application.

## Core principle

**The model never states a number on its own.** All calculation is done in code, and every figure traces back to a cell of a Eurostat dataset.
