# Pseudocode-i18n for Thonny

Write, run, check, format and visualize multilingual pseudocode directly in **Thonny 5**.

**Current version: 1.0.2.**
**Documentation:** https://rod2ik.gitlab.io/thonny-pseudocode-i18n/

## Quick start — 5 minutes

1. In Thonny, open **Tools → Manage plug-ins**.
2. Search for `thonny-pseudocode-i18n` and install it.
3. Restart Thonny.
4. Create `hello.pseudo` or `hello.algo`:

```pseudo
# language: fr
Saisir nom
Afficher "Bonjour", nom
```

5. Press **F5**, **Ctrl+R** or the green Run triangle.
6. Open the **Pseudocode** menu and try **Analyser**, **Formater**, **Convertir** and the companion views.
7. Open **Algorigramme** to switch Mermaid/Graphviz, then open **Exécution pas à pas** to follow the program step by step.

## Requirements and dependencies

- **Thonny:** `>=5,<6`.
- **Python:** **3.11 or newer**.
- **Pseudocode ecosystem:** `pseudocode-i18n >= 1.0.2, < 1.1`, `pseudocode-i18n-languageserver >= 1.0.2, < 1.1`, `pygments-lexer-pseudocode-i18n >= 1.0.2, < 1.1`.
- The plugin installation resolves these Python dependencies automatically. Users do **not** install the sibling projects manually.
- Mermaid and Graphviz rendering are provided through the Python runtime; no manual `mmdc`, Node.js or system Graphviz installation is required for normal plugin use.

## What you can do

| I want to… | In Thonny |
| --- | --- |
| Run my algorithm | **F5**, **Ctrl+R**, green triangle or **Pseudocode → Exécuter** |
| See errors and warnings | **Diagnostics** / **Pseudocode → Analyser** |
| Format the source | **Pseudocode → Formater** |
| Get completion | Start typing or press **Ctrl+Space** |
| Read syntax help | Hover / Documentation / Ctrl+click on documented syntax |
| Navigate symbols | Ctrl+click, references and rename actions |
| See an algorigram | **Algorigramme** |
| Switch Mermaid / Graphviz | Engine selector in Algorigramme |
| Enlarge the graph | **Taille / Size** selector (10–40) |
| Follow execution step by step | **Exécution pas à pas / Tutor** |
| Convert Pseudocode ↔ Python | Commands in the **Pseudocode** menu |
| Choose source language | Pseudocode language control / source directive |
| See component versions | **Informations** |

`.pseudo` and `.algo` are equivalent Pseudocode source files.

## 14 source languages

The plugin supports French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Greek, Ukrainian, Russian and English. The source language controls syntax, diagnostics, snippets, documentation, Tutor labels and flowcharts. It is independent from the Thonny interface language.

## Flowcharts and Tutor

The **Algorigramme** view renders Mermaid or Graphviz from the same shared semantic graph. Loop bodies keep their stable vertical layout, including recursively inside nested loops. The **Exécution pas à pas** view synchronizes the current source line, variables, calls, output and active flowchart path.

## Installation

For normal use, install the plugin with **Tools → Manage plug-ins**. See the [installation guide](https://rod2ik.gitlab.io/thonny-pseudocode-i18n/installation/) for details.

## Help and troubleshooting

The documentation includes:

- a [Quick start](https://rod2ik.gitlab.io/thonny-pseudocode-i18n/usage/quick-start/);
- a [task-oriented “I want to…” guide](https://rod2ik.gitlab.io/thonny-pseudocode-i18n/usage/how-to/);
- a [Troubleshooting guide](https://rod2ik.gitlab.io/thonny-pseudocode-i18n/usage/troubleshooting/);
- complete language-specific syntax and examples for all 14 languages.

## Development

Developer checkout, architecture, renderer overrides, tests, CI and release instructions belong to the dedicated [Development documentation](https://rod2ik.gitlab.io/thonny-pseudocode-i18n/development/). Normal users do not need them.
