# touchlab-license-server

The local license check for
[`touchlab-slip-model`](https://pypi.org/project/touchlab-slip-model/). It
is installed automatically with that package; you don't need to install it
yourself.

Before each run, `touchlab-slip-detect` asks it which connected fingertips
are licensed and how many days each license has left. It runs as a small
background service for your user, starts on its own when needed, and only
listens on a local socket, never on the network.

## Commands

```bash
touchlab-license-server list     # every license, whether it's valid, days left
touchlab-license-server status   # is the service running?
touchlab-license-server sync     # re-read the license folder now
touchlab-license-server stop     # stop the service
```

`list` output:

```
TL50140B9E...  licensed=True  expires_at=2026-12-25T10:00:00Z  (88 day(s) left)
```

Every check re-verifies the license's signature, so editing a license file
can't make it valid.

On Linux, to start the service at login instead of on first use:

```bash
touchlab-license-server install-service
systemctl --user daemon-reload
systemctl --user enable --now touchlab-license-server
```

It listens on a Unix socket on Linux, and on a `127.0.0.1` port on Windows.

Logs: `~/.local/share/touchlab/license_server/server.log` on Linux,
`%LOCALAPPDATA%\touchlab\license_server\server.log` on Windows.
