Mars Colony 1 is the primary human settlement on Mars and the anchor of the Inner Planets Survey and Grand Solar Tour Mars stay. Established in 2041, MC-1 is a pressurised habitat complex built into the basaltic rock of Hellas Planitia's northern shelf, chosen for its natural radiation shielding and proximity to subsurface water ice deposits. The colony supports a permanent population of approximately 2,400 residents and receives expedition visitors on a scheduled rotation coordinated with Pelorus Voyages and two other licensed operators.

Passengers spend three nights at MC-1. The accommodation is in the expedition wing, which is maintained separately from the residential quarters used by colony permanent residents and researchers. Expedition wing rooms are private for Navigator and Pathfinder class passengers and shared for Pioneer class passengers; shared rooms accommodate two passengers of the same gender assignment. All accommodation is pressurised and maintained at standard Earth atmospheric composition; no suit is required inside the colony habitat.

Mars Colony 1 operates on a 24-hour-40-minute Martian sol (day). Pelorus Voyages excursion scheduling uses Earth UTC but frames activity timing around the Martian sol to take advantage of surface light conditions. Sunrise at MC-1 is spectacular — the Martian sky transitions from a dark teal at pre-dawn to a distinctive butterscotch yellow-orange as the sun rises through the thin, iron-rich atmosphere. The dust content in the atmosphere varies by season; passengers on peak-season departures may experience reduced visibility on surface excursions during dust storm periods, and occasionally a surface excursion may be postponed by 24 hours if a regional dust storm reduces visibility below safe EVA thresholds.

Surface excursions depart from the MC-1 Airlock Bay B. A pre-excursion EVA suit fitting and briefing is mandatory for all passengers on their first Mars surface excursion and takes approximately 45 minutes. The briefing covers suit operation, emergency depressurisation response, buddy-check protocol, and the Mars surface communications system. Passengers who completed EVA orientation at Moon Base 7 for the lunar surface excursion still must complete the separate Mars EVA briefing; the Mars suit and operating environment differ enough that Moon orientation does not substitute.

Navigator and Pathfinder class passengers have standard surface excursions to Cydonia Highlands, Hellas Basin Overlook, and the Terraforming Operations Zone included in their fare. The Olympus Mons Caldera Rim hike is available to Pathfinder passengers only, as an included excursion subject to completing the Olympus Fitness Test at MC-1. Pioneer passengers may purchase any or all surface excursions individually.
