The Ceres Surface Walk is the central experience of the Waystation stop and is included in all Outer Reaches Tour and Grand Solar Tour excursion packages. Ceres is the largest body in the asteroid belt and is technically classified as a dwarf planet. Its surface gravity is approximately 0.03g — about one-thirtieth of Earth's — which makes movement on the surface unlike anything at any other stop on the itinerary. A slow step forward generates an upward arc; walking as you would on Earth will send you airborne. The guide briefing at the Waystation Hub before the surface walk covers movement technique in detail, and the first 10 minutes of the surface walk are conducted as a supervised familiarisation segment.

Standard tether protocol applies to all passengers during the surface walk. Each passenger is connected to a guide tether line anchored to the walking route's fixed anchor points. The tether allows full freedom of movement across the walking surface but prevents a passenger from drifting upward beyond approximately 15 metres. A single deliberate push off the surface — planting both feet and pushing straight up — will carry a passenger to roughly 15 metres before the tether draws taut and the slow arc begins back down. The return descent takes 20 to 30 seconds. Guides encourage passengers to experience at least one full arc during the familiarisation segment.

Tether detachment is prohibited during the standard surface walk. The only permitted tether detachment on the Ceres stop is at The Leap platform, which is a separate bookable experience with its own waiver requirements. Passengers who detach a tether during the standard walk without authorisation are in breach of the surface excursion safety agreement and will be returned to the Waystation Hub immediately.

The Leap waiver, if a passenger intends to do The Leap, must be signed at Moon Base 7 check-in before the voyage departs for Ceres. The waiver cannot be processed at Ceres Waystation itself due to the administrative and medical documentation system requirements at Moon Base 7. Passengers who arrive at Ceres without a signed Leap waiver on file are not permitted to participate in The Leap regardless of circumstances. Contact the Pelorus Voyages expedition coordinator at Moon Base 7 check-in to ensure the waiver is on file before departure.
