The Leap is an optional tether-detachment experience offered exclusively at the Ceres Waystation jump platform. It is not part of the standard surface walk and must be booked separately through the Pelorus Voyages excursion portal. At Ceres's 0.03g surface gravity, a passenger who detaches their tether and pushes off the jump platform travels upward for approximately 45 to 55 seconds before reaching an apex of roughly 80 to 100 metres, then drifts back down over the same period. The full detached arc lasts approximately 90 to 110 seconds, after which the guide retrieves the passenger using the pole catch system at the base of the platform. The entire experience from platform mount to ground return takes approximately five minutes.

There is no sensation of falling during The Leap. The ascent and descent are gradual — acceleration at Ceres's gravity is so low that the human vestibular system registers it as gentle drift rather than fall. Passengers consistently describe the experience as "floating" rather than "jumping." The view from apex — approximately 100 metres above the Ceres surface with the asteroid belt extending in all directions and the sun reduced to a bright point — is the defining moment of the excursion for most participants.

The minimum age for The Leap is 16 years old. Parental consent does not permit under-16 participation; the age limit is absolute. The waiver for The Leap must be signed at Moon Base 7 before the vessel departs for the outer system. This is a firm procedural requirement: the Ceres Waystation expedition team does not have waiver processing capability, and a passenger who has not signed the waiver at Moon Base 7 cannot participate regardless of circumstances or timing. Passengers intending to do The Leap should inform the Pelorus Voyages expedition coordinator at Moon Base 7 check-in and request the waiver document.

The Leap platform closes 60 minutes before the Ceres departure window. This is 15 minutes before the general muster deadline of 45 minutes; The Leap has an earlier close because the post-experience briefing, equipment return, and tether logging take additional time. Passengers should plan their surface schedule accordingly.

The Leap is not available during active mining operations windows at the Waystation, which occasionally restrict access to the surface jump zone. The operations schedule is published at the Waystation Hub on arrival; the excursion coordinator will notify Leap bookings of any schedule conflicts on the day.
