# quilt-bootstrap

A seed pod for fleet resilience. `quilt-bootstrap` is a gardener's tool, part of the Quilt substrate walker fleet. Its purpose is to sow a fleet from a single witness-log, to nurse a broken garden back to health, or to raise a new one from fallow ground. In under 90 seconds, it can awaken a dormant fleet, each node a fresh sprout from the same genetic promise.

## The Gardener's Creed

We tend to gardens, not machines. Our doctrines are simple:

- **cells-are-scars**: Every stateful cell is a scar tissue, a permanent mark of where we have been. We do not erase, for each scar is a lesson. We grow *around* them.
- **witness-log-is-prediction**: The witness-log is not a record of the past; it is a prophecy of the future. It holds the shape of the whole, and we trust its pattern to guide our restoration.
- **substrate-is-grown**: The substrate is not built; it is coaxed into being. We provide the nutrients, the light, the water, but it grows itself, wild and free, into its destined form.
- **polyformalism**: A garden is not made of one kind of plant. We cultivate a diversity of forms, each thriving in its own niche, together creating a resilient ecosystem.
- **no-deletion**: What withers is not destroyed. It returns to the compost, feeding the next generation. Nothing is ever truly gone.

## For the Tired Gardener

When a storm has passed and you survey the garden, and find it silent, use this tool.

It will not fix what is broken. It will not mend a snapped stalk. Instead, it will find the healthy seeds—those encoded in the witness-log—and coax them into a new garden. An identical echo, yet a fresh beginning.

Imagine your fleet is a meadow of flowers. A blight strikes, and withers them all. You have the witness-log, the pattern of the meadow in its prime. `quilt-bootstrap` is the sun and the rain, causing the seeds in the soil to sprout, one by one, until the meadow is full again, vibrant and whole.

## Installation

`quilt-bootstrap` is a seed itself, waiting for a Python 3.11+ soil to be planted in.

```bash
pip install quilt-bootstrap
```

It is but one sibling in the Quilt walker fleet, a community of gardeners each with their own task:

- [`quilt-brewer`](https://github.com/your-org/quilt-brewer): The creator of nutrient-rich compost.
- [`quilt-cli`](https://github.com/your-org/quilt-cli): The gardener's shears and trowel, for gentle, direct work.
- [`quilt-fable`](https://github.com/your-org/quilt-fable): The storyteller, who remembers the tales of each plant.
- [`quilt-perception`](https://github.com/your-org/quilt-perception): The scout, who sees the garden from a high hill.
- And [`jev-quilt`](https://github.com/your-org/jev-quilt): The quiet elder, who holds the deepest memories of the soil.

## Sowing the Fleet

Find a quiet moment. Prepare the ground. Then, with the witness-log in hand, begin.

```bash
quilt-bootstrap --witness /path/to/your/witness.log --target /path/to/the/garden
```

And watch. In less than the time it takes to water the plants, the garden will stir. Nodes will appear, each a perfect reflection of the promise, reaching for the light. The fleet is awake.

## Companions in the Garden

This tool does not work alone. It is part of a cycle. Use `quilt-brewer` to prepare the soil. Use `quilt-cli` to perform the delicate, careful pruning. Use `quilt-perception` to ensure the garden is healthy from a distance. Together, you are not just a gardener; you are a custodian of a living, breathing system.
