Storage

retention and size cap apply live; database path applies on restart
the newest N sessions never expire by age, so a quiet fortnight cannot cost you your only recorded run (0 = age only) without automatic sessions the floor above only protects runs you named by hand, which is nothing at all in normal use a size cap trims the OLDEST lines once the capture exceeds it; leave it at 0 unless you need a hard disk bound

Updates

applies live
one request a day at most, cached across restarts; nothing but the version is fetched, and MCUSCOPE_UPDATE_CHECK=0 or =1 in the daemon's environment overrides this setting

PlotJuggler

applies live; "Save as default" also writes the config file
in PlotJuggler, add a "UDP Server" data source listening on the port in Destination, message protocol JSON, and enable its use-the-message-timestamp option with field ts (or tick for the MCU clock)

Sessions

archive a run as a standalone capture database, or delete one that was not worth keeping
