INT. PUB BACK ROOM - NIGHT

CASSIE counts cash. LEWIS enters.

CASSIE
We’re closed.

LEWIS
Not to family.

CASSIE
Especially to family.

LEWIS
Mum said you’ve been avoiding me.

CASSIE
Mum says a lot. Yesterday she said the toaster was haunted.

LEWIS
Did you take the loan?

CASSIE stops counting.

CASSIE
Who told you?

LEWIS
So it’s true.

CASSIE
I kept the pub open.

LEWIS
You used Nana’s house as security.

CASSIE
It was temporary.

LEWIS
Temporary is a wet floor sign. This is a cliff.

CASSIE
You think I don’t know that?

LEWIS
I think you like being the one who copes, so much that you’d rather drown than ask.

CASSIE
And I think you like arriving after the storm, pointing at broken fences.

LEWIS
I had money.

CASSIE
You had a new baby and a boiler held together with prayer.

LEWIS
I had a sister.

Silence.

CASSIE
Don’t say it like that.

LEWIS
Like what?

CASSIE
Like I misplaced you.

LEWIS softens.

LEWIS
Then stop locking the door before I knock.
