The Blue Door
A slightly strange scene.

This script was written for a workshop on pace and silence.
The dialogue should be direct, but the pauses should not feel empty.
The blue door may be literal or imagined.

CAST
ADA - Keeps lists.
BRIAN - Avoids lists.
CARETAKER - Appears exactly when useful.

LOCATION
A hallway in a municipal building.

NOTES
No character should touch the blue door until the final line.

BEGIN PLAY

(ADA and BRIAN stand before a blue door.)

ADA
It is not on the plan.

BRIAN
Plans are hopeful documents.

ADA
Doors are usually declared.

BRIAN
Perhaps it is shy.

CARETAKER
It was here yesterday.

ADA
Why didn't you report it?

CARETAKER
It seemed settled.

BRIAN
See? A respectable door.

ADA
Open it.

(BRIAN reaches for the handle.)
