Night Shift

ACT I

SCENE I. A museum lobby.

GUARD: Midnight.

CURATOR: You say that every night.

GUARD: It is accurate every night.

CURATOR: Has the statue moved?

GUARD: Not while I was looking.

[A marble hand slowly points to the exit.]

CURATOR: It is pointing.

GUARD: It may have a suggestion.

SCENE II. The same lobby, five minutes later.

STATUE: Leave.

GUARD: That is new.

CURATOR: You speak?

STATUE: Only when ignored.

GUARD: In that case, you must be exhausted.
