A partial rather than an inline loop because it is also the unit the server
sends back on its own: completing a row's channels summons a fresh spare
below it, and the response carries this markup for the client to append.
Rendering the whole table instead would lose the sort order and everything
typed into the other rows.

Takes one context variable, `diagnostic`, as `make_series` builds it.
