What the guard collects

For each request through the admin, DBS stores the network the address belongs to (a /24 for IPv4, a /48 for IPv6), a hash of the full address keyed to this project's SECRET_KEY, a hash of the user agent, the numeric feature vector, and the resulting score. The address itself is not stored. Anomalies record only the network.

Browser location

Off unless DBS_GEOLOCATION = True and the person opted in during setup. When on, the browser is asked for a fix and the coordinates are rounded to about a kilometre before being stored. Declining costs nothing: an absent location is neutral, never an anomaly.

A location can only raise a risk score and never lower one, because it comes from the client and can be forged. Its real value is impossible travel — two fixes that cannot both be genuine.

Retention

Telemetry older than DBS_SECURITY_RETENTION_DAYS (default 90) is removed automatically, at most once a day, and on demand by python manage.py dbs security purge. The audit trail is never purged with it. For each account the guard keeps one count of the sessions it has seen, so a purge does not put a long-standing account back into its learning period.
